At the end of 2013 New Jersey home purchase contracts stood at 85,389 slightly less than 86,310 contracts written in 2006. The 2013 sales contracts represent the 3rd highest number since 2005 the height of the market, when a staggering 105,468 home purchase contracts were written.
Home purchase contracts have been declining steadily since 2005 from 80,417 in 2007 to a low of 57,190 in 2011. The numbers got a boost in 2009 with 67,736 contracts written, approximately 3600 more than the number written in 2008 which stood at 64,103.
In 2012, 73,874 home purchase contracts were written.
